The Visa Process:
The most important step in any international application is obtaining a study permit or a student visa. The requirements for getting it are different for specific countries. In Canada, there are generally 2 types of visa available for students called SDS and non-SDS. You can apply either online or through the paper method, at your convenience.
SDS stands for Student Direct Stream Process. It has been introduced to Pakistani Students in Nov 2019. It is considered a faster method comparatively because it requires fewer documents and less processing time ~ 21-22 days. The students are required to submit 1-year college fee in advance and open a GIC account of 10000 CAD in a Canadian bank. The GIC (guaranteed Investment certificate) is similar to a block account and the amount is returned periodically to students after they arrive to study in Canada. Other compulsions include an overall IELTS band of 6.5 with no less than 6 bands in each section.
Non-SDS also called the regular or general process takes much longer to complete ~3-6 months. In addition to other supporting documents, you need to show a bank statement containing sufficient funds from a Pakistani Bank. Due to lengthy verification system, it has less chance to succeed. Here, you have to submit the fee for first semester instead of the whole year. IELTS score demand may vary and you may also use an English proficiency certificate.
Common supporting Documents include Bank Statements, Passport, Acceptance Letter, Resume, SOP, Medical and Police Clearance Certificates, etc.
In either case, you have to select a DLI institute first and get the acceptance letter. Then you need to decide on a visa method and start proceeding with the application for study permit. The fee for student visa is $150 and an amount of $85 would be required for biometric confirmation after submitting the application.
It is important to select a Designated Learning Institute (DLI) for study in Canada if you also want to work with studies. These institutes are approved by the government to ensure a work permit for foreign students enrolled in them.
