The Australian government has recently announced changes to the English language requirements for student and temporary graduate visas, facilitating the process for those who wish to study in Australia from Pakistan. These changes aim to support international students in having a positive experience in Australia and succeeding in the Australian workplace.
Starting on March 23, 2024, all applications for student and temporary graduate visas must meet the updated English language criteria. However, full-time students, secondary exchange students, postgraduate research students, and students studying English exclusively through ELICOS will not see any changes.
The Department of Home Affairs has provided detailed information on the English language requirements for various visa subclasses. The Department accepts scores from the following tests undertaken at a secure test center for English language visa requirements: IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge C1 Advanced, and Pearson Test of English (PTE).
Only the paper-based Cambridge C1 Advanced exam results will be accepted starting on February 12, 2024, for Australian visa and immigration reasons. Test results from the C1 Advanced computer and paper versions that were completed before February 12, 2024, under the allotted validity period, are still admissible.
The Department does not accept scores from alternative versions of the tests, such as TOEFL iBT – Home Edition, OET@Home, PTE Academic Online, IELTS Online (General and Academic), and IELTS Indicator, for Australian migration purposes. International students applying for a student visa are advised to check with the Department of Home Affairs on separate English language requirements for their specific visa subclass.
